MHS, MCC graduate new Tax Commissioner
LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Gov. Dave Heineman announced his appointment of Kimberly Conroy of Papillion as the new Tax Commissioner for the Nebraska Department of Revenue.
Conroy, 53, has served as the Deputy Tax Commissioner at the department since September 2008. Prior to that, she served the Department of Revenue as the Director of the Compliance Division.
She is the daughter of Roger and Marj Wilson of McCook and is married to Jim Conroy, formerly of Indianola.
"I am honored by Gov. Heineman's appointment to this position," said Tax Commissioner Conroy. "I am appreciative of the Governor's trust in me to work diligently with both the citizens of the state and the department's employees in fairly and efficiently administering the revenue laws of the state."
Before coming to the Department, she worked in the Tax Department at Union Pacific Railroad. Conroy received her associate's degree from McCook Community College, her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law.
With more than 400 full-time employees across the state, the Department of Revenue is one of the larger state agencies. The department is made up of six divisions, including; property assessment, policy, compliance, operations and administrative services, lottery and charitable gaming, and motor fuels.
The Tax Commissioner serves as the director of the department. As Tax Commissioner, Conroy will be responsible for the development of policies and procedures for revenue collection at the state and local levels, and for the administration and collection of all state revenues as provided by law.
Conroy lives in Papillion with her husband, Jim. They have three children and two grandchildren. Conroy will assume the responsibilities of Tax Commissioner on Oct. 19.
She will be paid an annual salary of $135,000.
