Dog Days in the park

Monday, September 23, 2013

Dogs of all shapes, sizes, breeds and mixes spent Saturday afternoon getting acquainted at the upper shelter house in Barnett Park. A fund-raiser for the McCook Humane Society, the event also drew hundreds of humans to check out the carnival games and the information booths set up by area vendors. "Rudy" gets his teeth checked by Candace Mohr, DVM (Four Winds Animal Clinic), while Lena Reynolds and Pam Gaston from Pet Pros trim the nails on a mixed breed. Honey, a corgi, ignores the bright yellow tennis balls in favor a good lapping of water at the Paw Wash booth, and Louie, a chihuahua, and Raven, a schnauzer-poodle mix, keep their humans, Donna Salladay of Manhattan, Kansas and Darlene Lambert of McCook, company. The McCook Police Department provided information on city statutes, Mr. Bill provided free sno-cones and the 4-H club set up an agility course. Sponsors included: The McCook Humane Society Board Members and Volunteers; The SuperSwitch "Cat Pack"; Boy Scouts Troop #147; Farrell's Pharmacy and Hallmark; Emeritus at Willow Ridge; Pet Pros; Kugler Company; Orscheln's Farm and Home; High Plains Radio (KICX & The Hawk); Pepsi of McCook; Four Winds Animal Clinic; MNB Sparky's Kids Club; The Paw Wash; WalMart; Monica Conroy; Julia Kotschwar, LMT; Good Dog Bakery; McCook Community College Men's Basketball; and the American Kennel Club.
