Four full-time staff members join college

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Four new full-time staff members at McCook Community College completed their first week of classes this semester. They include: Jon Froelich: Student Success and Retention Coordinator and MCC Women's Basketball coach; Dan Sewell: Area Technology Specialist, Information Services Department, McCook campus; Clay Grizzle: Theater and Speech instructor; and Randy Chambers: welding instructor at the Center for Applied Science and Technology

Jon Froelich: Is the new Student Success and Retention Coordinator for McCook Community College. In addition, he will coach women's basketball. Froelich graduated from Kansas University with a Journalism Degree and has a Master's Degree in Education, Student Counseling, from Dallas Baptist University. He has 11 years of community college experience in the education field, and at the high school level, has been a counselor, administrator, worked in career placement, and the addition and retention departments

The past four years, Froelich worked at Fort Bend Christian Academy in Sugar Land, Texas. Along with his work in education, Froelich coached women's basketball and the women's cross country. He has coached three state championship teams and has more than 750 career coaching wins including a 41-4 record this past season at Fort Bend and a state runner-up finish.

"He will play a vital role in the new retention initiatives we have planned and brings a wealth of knowledge that will be helpful in paving the way for new ideas in the coming years," said Kelly Rippen, Area Dean of Enrollment Management.

"The moment he accepted the position, he was off and running with recruiting, which is the number one priority in a program," MCC Athletic Director Jon Olsen said. "Coach Froelich constantly stays in contact with us and the returning student-athletes with phone calls, emails, texts and social media, which shows the work ethic that he has. He brings a high level commitment, a track record of success and is a welcome addition to our staff, college, and the community of McCook."

Dan Sewell is the newest member of the full-time staff of the Information Services department. Dan will serve as an Area Technology Specialist on the McCook campus. He had been serving as a part-time Area Tech Specialist. He began his tenure June 10.

Clay Grizzle: holds a B.A. degree in Psychology, M.A. in Communication and is ABD in Fine Arts, Theater.

He most recently was a Professor of Theater/Drama at Panola College in Carthage, Texas. He brings more than 30 years of teaching and theater production experience to McCook Community College.

At MCC he will teach theater and speech and his office will be located in 224 Walsh-Brady Hall.

Randy Chambers: Has an AAS degree in Nondestructive Testing and Quality Assurance and a B.S. degree in Business Administration. He comes to MCC from Valmont Industries, after 13 years of employment, where he was the Quality Manager. He joins the welding program at the Center for Applied Science and Technology, where his office will be located....

MASS CASUALTY INCIDENT TRAINING: Mid-Plains Community College Center for Enterprise will partner with McCook Fire Chief Mark Harpham, Community Hospital Safety Director Dari Olson, and EMS coordinator Robert Allen to offer Mass Casualty Incident training Sept. 10-11 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at the City of McCook Municipal facility, 505 West C Street.

Training instructors Sarah Radinsky and Ron Richards, from Task Force 1, will be instructing the two-day interactive exercise. The class cost is $190 for the two day training. Price includes lunch and snacks for both days.

MCC CAMPUS CAFE: The McCook Community College online student-led blog presence, Campus Café (http://mcccampuscafe.blogspot.com/) is seeking editorial staff for a one-credit hour, eight-week course, to learn the ins and outs of on-line blogging and basic journalism rules.

This class will help fill the gap to maintain full-time status of 12 hours or to reach you minimum hours to graduate! The course is JOUR 1200 and requires permission to register. Class will be held the last eight weeks of this semester.

CPR FOR COLLEGE STAFF: MCC is giving its faculty and staff the chance to update lifesaving skills, or to get re-certified through ASHI CPR/First Aid classes. The classes are being taught by Bob Molcyk with 8-12 participants per class. It is offered free to any faculty member, staff, or administer through the Center For Enterprise. The first session was held Aug. 22, with upcoming session set for Sept. 18, Oct. 19, and Nov. 13 in Tipton Hall....

VISUAL STYLES, an exhibition of Nebraska's best artists, will be on display at the Wrightstone Fine Arts Gallery through Oct. 1.

This exhibit is on loan from the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA)and showcases all styles and media from MONA's permanent collection.

The Wrightstone Gallery is open from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Tuesdays until 9 p.m.
