Leon W. Flock

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Leon W. Flock, age 93, passed away at his home in McCook on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013.

Leon was born on April 11, 1920, to Chester and Hattie (Easton) Flock on the Merton Flock Farm south west of Maywood, Nebraska, in Frontier County. He attended grade school at Bluff View southwest of Maywood and then graduated from Curtis High School in 1937.

He married Florence M. Kennedy on Oct. 10, 1940, in McCook. The couple made their home in the Maywood and McCook areas. Leon farmed the land he loved for many years. He also worked for the United States Post Office for 40 years as a contract route mail carrier.

Leon helped consolidate four rural country school districts into a new district 77 and also served on the board as secretary and treasurer. He looked forward to coffee with the guys each day throughout the years.

Survivors include his children, Leroy (Erika) Flock of Mill Spring, North Carolina, Lois (Tom) Sharp of St. Francis, Kansas, Ron (Noreen) Flock of Maricopa, Arizona Larry (Lynn) Flock of Queen Creek Arizona; sister, Maxine (Jack) Viersen of North Platte; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Florence.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home McCook, with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, McCook.
