We live in a world filled with bad news. We hear of terrible things happening in our world each and every day. It would be easy to get down about this and become depressed, but there is Good News that can lift us up and give us hope.

The Good News we hear from John's gospel is that Jesus Christ has come into the world as the Light of the world and that light shines for all to see. The light of Christ brings hope where there is despair. The light of Christ enlightens us to never give up, even in the face of darkness and evil. The light of Christ is what fills us as Christians to be like Christ and shine God's love to others. Through God's love in Christ we can shine love and grace to others in need. When disaster strikes, we see people reaching out to others with this love to help in time of need. As John writes in Chapter 1, "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (John 1:5) The Good news of Jesus Christ is that the darkness will never be able to put out the light of Christ in this old world. As Christians, we are a people of hope because we know that goodness will triumph over bad at the end of time. Be encourages and let your light, the light of Christ, shine through you to others today.
