Tuesday, July 16, 2013

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook City Council approved application for a Nebraska Affordable Housing Program grant for $310,000 for owner-occupied rehabilitation of 10 homes.

If the city receives the grant, which requires no local match, $250,000 will go for actual housing rehabilitation, and $55,000 will go toward administration, project management and paint testing, risk assessments and clearance testing.

To qualify, recipients would be targeted at 80 percent or below area median income, which translates to a maximum of $32,700 household income for one person, up to $61,600 for a household of eight.

The money could be used for major home improvements such as new roofs, new HVAC equipment, windows and other structural and weatherization improvement.

The program is targeted at homes that need improvement but are still structurally sound, Eric Hellriegel of Miller & Associates told the council.
