Connie Jo Discoe/McCook Daily Gazette

Eight-year-old Chesney Latta, above, holds her nose, executing a head-first slide out of the blue tube into the cool waters of the McCook, Nebraska, city pool Thursday afternoon, when the thermometer read 93 degrees in the shade. Other McCook kids cooling off at the pool were Jonathon Morquecho, far right, and Tesa Nelson, right, performing specialty dives off the board. The pool is open -- weather permitting -- Monday through Saturday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Daily admission is $1 for the baby pool, $1 for 12 and under and $2.50 for 13 and over. Season passes cost $25 for a child 12 and under and $35 for an individual 13 and over. A family pass costs $60. Reprints available at mccookgazette.com.
