Mother Nature put a damper on the 2013 Spring Slam youth baseball tournament Saturday, May 25.

Late tournament games Saturday evening at the Jaycees Sports Complex in McCook were called off due to heavy lightning and rain in the area.

The 11-Under age division completed play before the storm invaded the area. The McCook Cats took the title in the four-team, round-robin competition. McCook and Holyoke, Colo. tied for first with 2-1 records, but McCook claimed the title by virtue of its head-to-head 15-7 victory over the Colorado squad.

The McCook 11-Under team's only loss was a 12-1 setback to Gothenburg, but that was Gothenburg's only win of the day. The North Platte Outlaws also went 1-2 and finished third ahead of Gothenburg.

In the 10-Under division, the McCook Bison won first place after late games were called off. The Bison went 2-0, while Goodland, Kan. and Broken Bow each went 1-1 in the four-team, round-robin division and Yuma, Colo. went 0-2.

McCook also won the title in the shortened 12-Under division. The McCook Bison and Lexington each won two games to advance to the finals in the eight-team bracket. McCook held the tie-breaker over Lex with least runs allowed in the tournament to claim first place.
