Nursing home foundation funds remain separate

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Hillcrest Board of Trustees voted unanimously to keep the Hillcrest Foundation expenses separate from the nursing home.

Currently, the policy is that salary and benefits of the foundation director are paid by Hillcrest, then reimbursed by the foundation.

Foundation members wanted clarification on the best way to proceed in setting the foundation director's salary, Hillcrest administrator Colinda Nappa said Tuesday at the regular trustee meeting.

Red Willow County Commissioner Vesta Dack, who sits in on board meetings as a representative of the county, told trustees that the foundation should be kept separate from the nursing home, as stated in a meeting about a year ago.

"(Red Willow County attorney) Paul Wood was emphatic about that," Dack said. "They are to be two separate entities."

The board agreed and voted to keep the two organizations separate.

Nappa also told the board she has discovered that Hillcrest is registered with the Nebraska Secretary of State as "Hillcrest Nursing Home Foundation, doing business as Hillcrest Nursing Home." She asked that the name of Hillcrest be registered properly and recommended using something other than the term "nursing home," because of its negative connotations.

Hillcrest provides more than just nursing home services, she said, citing rehabilitation for those recovering from surgery and the on-site daycare center for children.

Another name could be Hillcrest Healthcare Center, she suggested.

Board member Karen Kliment said that changing names can be expensive, as all kinds of documents have to be changed, including state licensing documents.

Nappa told the board she would be in contact with the Secretary of State to see what is involved.

In other action, the board was updated on several items, including:

* the facility is still in the process of being verified by the Veteran's Administration office, to offer services for veterans. Veterans that are 70 percent disabled could be eligible to receive certain services, along with their spouses.

* 20/20 Technologies, a local company, is now the technology firm that Hillcrest will use.

* the board was updated on procedures used when alleged or suspected abuse occurs, that includes involving the state and local law enforcement

* New employees were hired in accounts receivable and in billing. At least one full time RN and one part-time RN is still needed.

  • Great idea to remain two different funds.
