St. Patrick's classroom named as a top reading class by 'BOOK IT' program

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program has recognized Krista Buechler's fourth grade classroom at St. Patrick's Catholic School as a Top 100 reading classrooms for the 2012-13 school year. Thousands of classrooms tracked their students' reading progress with the BOOK IT! Minute Tracker, recording more than 120 million minutes. The Minute Tracker is an interactive online tool used by teachers and their classrooms to keep track of the minutes students read during the course of the six month BOOK IT! Program.

Krista Buechler's fourth grade classroom logged 142,075 minutes of reading, ranking them a Top 100 classroom. They were presented with a "Top 100 Award" and a Pizza Hut gift card on Friday, April 26.

"We are incredibly proud of the students at St. Patrick School for their exceptional commitment to reading with the BOOK IT! Program," commented Shelley Morehead, BOOK IT! Program Administrator. "These students are going above and beyond. We're fortunate to have such tremendous support from schools who are committed to make reading great."

The BOOK IT! Program wrapped up its 28th year with more than 14 million students in 680,000 classrooms across the country participating. It is also a part of Pizza Hut's "Share a Slice of Hope" movement that encourages consumers and Pizza Hut employees nationwide to help others through the company's three philanthropic pillars: children's literacy, world hunger relief and community involvement.
