McCOOK, Nebraska -- Signs of spring abound in Southwest Nebraska. The robins are singing, tender green shoots are more plentiful every day and it's time for the annual KNGN 1360 AM Share-A-Thon, April 17-19.

Although the theme of the 2013 fund-raiser is, "Ripe Unto Harvest" from John 4:35, the spring share-a-thon is appropriate because, as any farmer worth his salt knows, without the sowing of the seed, there can be no harvest.

The meeting room at the station, situated west of McCook, just north of Perry Grain, is filling with auction items for the daily auctions and the calendar of on-air interviews is nearly full to bursting, according to station manager Adam Spanier.

"We've already gotten some impressive auction items," Spanier reported, including a glider rocker from the Gaster family, hose from Parker-Hannifen, and a beautiful clock from Farrells. The items can be viewed online at www.kngn.org. Each day of the share-a-thon, a new list of items will be up for bid, with bids closing each day at 7 p.m. Adam offers this piece of advice, "You'd better get a game plan cause it's going to get crazy."

Shareathon means lots of games, lots of giveaways, lots of hilarity and "lots and lots of interviews!"

The list of interviews includes the hosts of the newest programming offered at KNGN, including the hosts of Lamplight Conversations, a completely local program produced in-house at KNGN, offering a roundtable discussion program based on the Scriptures selected for the three year lectionary of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. A special call-in edition of that program is planned from 5-6 p.m., on Thursday, April 18.

A live edition of Table Talk also is tentatively scheduled from 5-5:30 p.m., Wednesday, so stay tuned for late updates. All listeners are encouraged to call in at (308) 345-2006, to participate in these unique, live programs.

Spanier well understands the need to bring in the harvest, noting in the station's March 2013 newsletter that "As we look at the world, it's easy to see that things are heading in a bad direction in a hurry. Economic woes, bad government, horrible social values, the definition of family is lost and moral standards don't even exist anymore.

"If we stood alone and took a long hard look around, we'd be crushed. Things are bad, but with Christ we can do all things. The fields are ripe and ready to be picked and with the Spirit we can do it."

KNGN, a listener-supported Christian radio station, has expanded its outreach over the past several years under Spanier's leadership, with the support of the station's board of directors. The station went online at www.kngn.org with online streaming in 2010, and, according to Spanier, is unveiling a newly designed, "super simple yet super cool" website just before share-a-thon begins.

Offering something for everyone, the programming includes Adventures in Odyssey, Kid's Corner, Paws and Tails and The Pond for the young and the young at heart, along with favorites such as Focus on the Family, Revive our Hearts, White Horse Inn and Lighten Up. Program guides are available online and at the station.

The station is a valuable local resource as well, providing a community calendar that details area activities and provides funeral announcements.

On-air personalities include Spanier, Ree Smock and Patrick Macumber.
