School board to be asked to amend budget

Friday, April 5, 2013

McCOOK, Nebraska -- A public hearing on amending the bond fund budget will open the McCook School Board meeting Monday, 6:30 p.m., at the junior high cafeteria.

The public hearing is required as the budget is being amended to reflect the $700,000 saved when bonds for McCook Elementary were re-financed in January.

After the public hearing, the school board will reconvene as a regular meeting, where the board will be asked to approve the amended budget.

Also at the regular meeting, the board will be asked to approve the resignation of Gloria Brennan, the district's speech pathologist, and a hiring contract for Sarah Reinert at Central Elementary.

Reports that will be presented include those on student council and PTO, along with presentations on:

* the WIN program that will be implemented at the high school next year. High school students will meet four times a week (every day except for Wednesday) for 20 minutes with their fifth period instructor and use that time to study, explore career and college options, make up work due to absences and seek assistance from teachers.

Goals of the program include promoting mutually respectful and meaningful relationships and to provide each student with individual attention, according to information distributed to school board members.

* Poetry Out Loud, from high school students Megan Siebrandt and McKaden Packard;

* administrative comments on Career Fairs at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Kearney
