Phyllis Nadine Kirkman

BENKELMAN, Nebraska -- Phyllis Nadine Kirkman was born June 15, 1937, in Max, Nebraska, to Harley and Selma (Brynoff) Howard. Phyllis was educated in the Max schools and graduated from Max High School in 1954.

On Oct. 9, 1955, she was united in marriage to Leslie Ivan Kirkman, a homebuilder from Benkelman. To this union one son was born in 1968.

Phyllis remembered being called to play the piano for church when she was 11 years old and she held that position until last Sunday. Phyllis was the church organist for over 35 years. She was also secretary/treasurer for the United Methodist Church of Max for many years and received many commendations for her continued service. She was also a volunteer at the Stratton Senior Center since 2003. Phyllis served there in many capacities.

Phyllis passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Dundy County Hospital. She was 75 years of age.

Survivors include, son, Neal Kirkman of Brainard, Nebraska.

Phyllis was preceded in death after more than 52 years of marriage by her husband, Les, as well as her parents ,Harley and Selma Howard.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 5, 2013, 2 p.m. (MT), at Forch Funeral Chapel, Benkelman, Nebraska, with Rev. Sheila Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, Nebraska.

Visitation will be Tuesday morning, March 5, 2013, before services starting at 10:00 a.m. (MT), at the Forch Funeral Chapel.

A memorial has been established in Phyllis' memory.
