Friday, February 8, 2013

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Unofficial statistics compiled by the McCook Daily Gazette, with the assistance of public information provided by Red Willow County Court officials, shows that 126 criminal and traffic cases were processed in county court for the month of December 2012. 55 of those cases stemmed from citations originating from the Nebraska State Patrol, followed by 49 from the McCook Police Department and 11 from the Red Willow County Sheriff's Department. The originating agency for 11 cases was unavailable.

The agency breakdown of cases only calculates which agency the officer originating the citation falls under, it does not reflect multiple agency cooperation on cases, which happens on a regular basis.

The vast majority of December's county court cases focused on traffic violations. Numbers reflected in the following category breakdown of county court cases, may be higher than the total number of cases for the month, due to multiple charges in certain cases.

  • Wow!! Those numbers blow my mind. A small explosion it may be, but how is it that the county could only have 11 cases in a month. I think the Sheriff should have something to say about that. Also the McCook police have quite a few officers for the town size and they only come up with 49. When I read the county court records, it appears that a lot of the citations are to out of county or out of state drivers. Surely the McCook residents aren't that good of drivers or they sure know how to not get caught. I hope it's that they are law abiding. Enough said. Oh, way to go Nebraska State Patrol.
