College board elects officers, approves contracts

NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- Elizabeth Benjamin was elected to her fourth term as chairwoman of the Mid Plains Community College board of governors at Wednesday's regular meeting.

Louie Stithem was re-elected as vice-chair; Glenda Hasenauer, re-elected as secretary/treasurer; and Ted Klug Jr. continues as assistant secretary/treasurer. Ernie Mehl, and Kent Miller will again represent Mid-Plains Community College on the Nebraska Community College Association Board of Trustees.

Following a closed session, the board approved a 2013-14 contract with the Mid-Plains Vocational Educators Association, with a total increased compensation package of 3.25 percent.

This was the final package to be completed with the college's three bargaining units.

The board approved Weathercraft Roofing of McCook's low bid of $51,089 for replacement of the Brooks Hall roof system located on the McCook Community College Campus, to be completed prior to June 30, 2013. This is in the 2012-13 Capital Improvement budget.

The Board also accepted Weathercraft Roofing of McCook's low bid of $67,980 to replace the True Hall roofing system located on the McCook Community College Campus, to be completed after July 1, 2013. This will be in the 2013-14 Capital Improvement budget.

AJ Heating, Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal's low bid of $98,500 was accepted for the replacement of the HVAC system for the vacated Health Occupations wing on the NPCC North Campus, W. W. Wood Building. This is a Capital Improvement budgeted item and part of the plan for remodeling

Other major items approved for purchase Wednesday night included welding booths and hoods from Clean Air America for $92,400 and welding equipment from Matheson Tri-Gas for $55,003.44. Both will be funded through the TAA-Trans-IT grant.

The board's next meeting is Feb. 27 in North Platte.
