McCook, Nebraska, Area Chamber of Commerce president Alan Gunther, top, presents the "State of the Chamber" address during the chamber's annual banquet Saturday evening. Past president Tyler Schmick presented the chamber's annual awards to: John Hubert, "Community Builder"; Kim and Jay Schilling, "Ag Builder"; McCook Cordials, "Community Service" award; and Gunther, "Chamber Volunteer of the Year." Comedian David Ferrell, at right, of Raleigh, North Carolina, joked with the crowd about being "McCook-ians" and about "Indian-ola" and even the Kansas community of "Bird City." Ferrell encouraged Chamber members, "Use your talents. Use what you have access to. The greatest ideas in the world come from this country ... from small communities like these." Tammy and Terry Hilker of McCook won the grand prize, a trip for two to Las Vegas. Look for more banquet news, including in-depth coverage, in Tuesday's edition of the McCook Daily Gazette.
