Stacking champ

Monday, January 21, 2013

William Polly, the grandson of Karl and Judith Polly of Wauneta, Nebraska, will defend his national, world, and Junior Olympics sport stacking titles at the U.S. National Sport Stacking Championships in Towson, Maryland, in March; the World Sport Stacking Championships in Orlando, Florida, in April; and the AAU Junior Olympics in Detroit, Michigan, in July. Along with his titles, William currently holds the world record of 1.96 seconds in the 3-6-3 competition (cups are upstacked and downstacked left to right or right to left in three stacks of three cups on the left, six cups in the middle and three cups on the right). He also holds the world record of 13.43 seconds for the 3-6-3 relay as a member of the relay team named "Wills and Not Wills." William is the son of Kris and Laura Polly of Arlington, Virginia. Although he received his first set of cups when he was in kindergarten, he did not begin practicing and competing in sport stacking tournaments until he was nine years old. Since then, William has earned a total of seven Guinness-recognized world records. His successes in sport stacking have led to appearances on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Live! with Kelly. Additionally, he will appear on the Steve Harvey Show; the episode has been taped but the air date is not known. Videos of champion stackers -- including William Polly -- can be viewed at the Website of the World Sport Stacking Association, www.thewssa.com; click on "World Records" and "William Polly."
