More than 150 area fifth grade students attend Leadership Day at MPCC

NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- On Jan. 8, more than 160 fifth grade students from North Platte, Hershey, McCook, Stapleton, Sidney, Ogallala, Sutherland, Kimball, Chase County, Bridgeport, and Gordon/Rushville gathered at MPCC in North Platte for the 17th Annual Region 5 Leadership Day.

Those attending from McCook included Central Elementary students Colton Craig, Cooper Lines, Drew Daum, Kori Uerling, Candace Coleman, Dawson Bredvick, Alyssa Tucker, TJ Renner, Brolin Morgan, Cameryn Berry.

Students enjoyed a busy morning of attending sessions to enhance their leadership skills. They attended sessions in four focus areas: Peer Leadership, School/Community Leadership, Environmental Leadership, and Cyber Leadership.

After a lunch of pizza and an organized dance activity, students met with their building peers and worked to create a media project. The completed project will be shared with 4th and 5th grade peers at their home school.

During the closing exercise, students pledged to... "be a leader, stand up for the right thing, to make it my goal to live the truth...and to use my brain and energy to develop good character."
