PALISADE, Nebraska -- DeVeta V. Redfield of Palisade passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Community Hospital in McCook surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years old.

DeVeta was born on Feb. 5, 1922, at Haigler, Nebraska to Charles T. and Galena (Workman) Collicott. She graduated from Haigler High School in 1939. She continued her education at Chadron State Teachers College and received her Teaching Certificate. After graduation, DeVeta taught school at District 29 and at Max Schools.

On June 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to Dwaune E. Redfield at Stratton, Nebraska. To this union three children were born. They made their home on a farm East of Palisade where DeVeta was a busy mother and homemaker. She also worked at Beverly Elevator, Hitchcock County Courthouse and the Trenton Bank as well as selling Avon.

DeVeta was a member of the Palisade United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of two neighborhood clubs. She volunteered her time as a 4-H Leader. In her free time, DeVeta enjoyed working in her flowers and yard, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Dancing became DeVeta and Dwaune's source of entertainment. Wherever there was a good area country dance, they could be found. Milestone anniversaries were celebrated with an open house and a dance.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles and Galena Collicott; son, Keith Redfield, March 5, 2012; grandson, Mitchell Redfield; one brother, LaVoine Collicott and wife, Opal; one sister, Elsie and husband, Lee Appleby; and granddaughter-in-law, April Redfield.

Survivors include her loving husband and devoted caregiver of 70 years, Dwaune Redfield of Palisade; daughter, Sharlene (Joe) Baker of Fort Lupton, Colorado; granddaughter, Sharon Naukam (Aaron) and great-grandchildren, Ahron and Samantha, grandson, Christopher Baker (Sabrina) of Palisade and great-grandchild, Ashton, grandson, Michael Baker and special friend, Jaci Witkowski of Greeley, Colorado, grandson, Chancelor Redfield of Fort Lupton, Colorado and great-grandchildren, Alyiah and Kelsey of McCook, grandson, Tim Redfield of Bertrand, Nebraska and great-grandchildren, Seth and Sophia, and great-grandchild Theron Redfield of Omaha, son of the late, Mitchell Redfield; and daughter, Kaylene (Dick) Luedtke of Columbus, Nebraska and grandson, Tad Luedtke (Allie) of Lincoln, Nebraska; numerous family and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, 1 p.m. at the Palisade United Methodist Church with Rev. Bonnie McCord officiating. Burial will follow at the Palisade Cemetery.
