McCook matmen win two medals at Holdrege Invite

HOLDREGE, Neb. -- McCook High School had a tough day Saturday, Dec. 8. at the Holdrege Invitational wrestling meet.

The Bison scored 22.5 points in the varsity division to finish ninth in the final team standings. McCook entered just five wrestlers in the varsity competition.

Two Bison earned medals. Kasey Taylor, a sophomore, advanced to the 120-pound championship match. Taylor dropped an 8-4 decision to Keegan Williams of Class A Lincoln Southwest. To reach the finals, Taylor went overtime with Alam Alvarez of Lexington in the semifinals, where Taylor won a 7-5 decision.

Mitch Collicott won one of three matches to finish fourth in the 285-pound class. The senior made quick work of Brian Lange of Grand Island Northwest, as Collicott won the consolation semifinal match by fall in just 29 seconds.

The other McCook varsity competitors included Keith Helm (106), Michael Erickson (138) and Kasey Hahn (160).

CHASE COUNTY also won a pair of medals in the varsity division. Jason Lueth finished third at 152 pounds, and Michael May placed fourth at 145.

The Longhorns from Imperial finished 10th in the varsity team standings with 20 points.

Lincoln Southwest won the team title with 196.5 points, with Lexington a distance second with 150 points. York placed third with 140 points.

In the junior varsity division, Dakota McBride of McCook won three matches by fall to claim first place at 182 pounds. Matt McBride duplicated that feat at 195 pounds to also win a gold medal. Dalton Goodenberger won three of four matches to finish third at 220 for the Bison reserves.

No team scores were compiled in the junior varsity competition.
