VA approval not a done deal

Thursday, November 29, 2012

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The designation of Hillcrest Nursing Home as a contracted nursing home for veterans is still in the process of being confirmed, which could take up to six months.

As such, veterans cannot go to the facility for services until that process is completed, according to Tom Stritt, the Red Willow County Veterans Service Officer.

Stritt said there has been confusion about the facility accepting veterans and that Hillcrest has only been approved to be inspected. After that is done, Hillcrest might be designated as a care facility for vets who qualify.

Vets must meet certain criteria to be eligible for services, Stritt said, including being 70 percent disabled.
