McCOOK, Nebraska -- Area residents have until Friday to make eligible tree purchases for the Fall 2012 Tree Rebate Program. The City of McCook will rebate as much as $100 each, for up to three trees, purchased by Nov. 30.
Tree rebate requests must be received by Dec. 10, 2012, and the tree must meet certain type and planting requirements.
Two trees may be rebated per property owner or tenant, per lot, each spring and fall season. Trees must be purchased from McCook businesses and planted in the front yard of the property. A third tree may qualify if at least one of the three trees is planted on the terrace street right-of-way.
The program rebates 75 percent of the total purchase price, with a maximum of $75 per tree for shade and ornamental trees and a maximum $100 per tree for the focus tree.
Trees must be a minimum of six feet tall and the focus tree is Oak, which includes English, White, Heritage or Bur Oak.
Acceptable shade and ornamental tree types include Amur Corktree, Catalpa, Hackberry, Elm (Dutch Elm disease resistant), Golden Raintree, Maple (Norway, Superform and Emerald Queen), Kentucky Coffeetree, Linden, Tatarian Maple, Thornless and Seedless Honey Locust.
Acceptable ornamental trees include Canadian Red Cherry, Flowering Crab Apple, Flowering Hawthorne, Purple Leaf Plum, Callery Pear (excluding Bradford Pear), Weeping Cherry and Weeping Mulberry.
