IMPERIAL, Nebraska -- BD Construction Inc., of Kearney, Nebraska, one of the Midwest's leading construction companies, is building a new collision and restoration center for Harchelroad Motors in Imperial, the first of several projects the dealership plans in order to replace buildings destroyed in a 2009 fire.

Harchelroad Motors is a world-renowned custom car and restoration business with locations in Imperial and Wauneta, Nebraska. The company also is the largest General Motors (GM) dealership between Denver and Grand Island, Nebraska.

Three years ago, a fire destroyed the five buildings that made up the body shop and dealership in Imperial. Since that time, the Imperial dealership has operated out of temporary sites.

BD Construction President and CEO Mark Benjamin said that the new building will be an important addition to the company and the community.

"This building provides Harchelroad Motors the space and necessary tools to rebuild and expand the business after the fire," Benjamin said. "We are proud that our services contribute to the growth of this Nebraska business."

Harchelroad Motors owner Sid Harchelroad said the expansion will help the business take its custom car and restoration services to the next level. The fire forced the company to turn down business because it lacked space.

"With the extra space, we expect to add more people to our staff in order to provide better service for our existing and new customers, which will help boost the local economy," Harchelroad said.

The stand-alone, 15,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art body shop will be located several blocks away from the existing dealership and includes a custom show room, offices and a meeting room. The collision center is certified by GM and PPG (Pittsburgh Paint and Glass) and will use the latest technology with eco-friendly waterborne paint that is non-hazardous and contaminant-free when dry. Construction is expected to be complete by spring 2013.
