Thank you, veterans

McCook, Nebraska, Elementary, McCook Central and McCook Senior High students observe Veterans Day with a program of songs and flag-waving in the commons area at McCook Elementary Friday morning. Navy veterans Bob Tiller, top left, and John Smith of McCook were among the 30-or-so veterans who attended. Declaring their thanks to veterans with songs such as heart-string-tugging renditions of "Today's the Day We Celebrate Our Veterans" and Louie Armstrong's "It's a Wonderful World" were kindergartners through third graders, including, above from left, second graders Mya Rodriguez and Dominic Wheelbarger, and, third photo from top, Adam Dugger, Zoey Tucker, Asher Long, Megan Kotschwar and Nate Schmidt. The Central Stars, second from top, sang "My Country, Tis of Thee," and the McCook Senior High

Band played Lee Greenwood's "I'm Proud to be an American."

  • McCook Elementary always does a nice job with their Veterans Day program, however, it would be nice if the Gazette would go to some other surrounding schools and show theirs as well. I was at Southwest for their program and they do an equally good program to honor our Veterans.
