MANHATTAN, Kansas -- LaVera "Lucile" Leeds, 88, of Manhattan, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Westy Community Care Home in Westmoreland.

Lucile was born in Wilsey, Kansas on March 28, 1924, the daughter of the late Maggie Ella (McCreight) and Roy Hugh Schoof. She attended the local schools and graduated from Council Grove High School in 1941.

Lucile married Vernon Elbert Leeds on Sept. 27, 1942, in Valley Center, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1991.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was Circle Leader secretary for the church. She was also a member of AARP, the Manhattan Senior Citizens Center, and a member of the Starduster Extension Unit for 45 years.

She is survived by two sons; Arnold D. Leeds and wife, Claudia, of Wamego; and Darrell Leeds and wife, Beverly, of Emporia; two brothers, Russell R. Schoof and wife, Jeanette of Yukon, Oklahoma, Maurice Max Schoof and wife, Diane, of Kansas City, Missouri; a sister, Opal Mae Burgener and husband Donald, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; five grandchildren, Lisa Whitworth and husband, Corey, Todd Leeds and wife, Cara, Derek Leeds and wife, Leah, Jessica Crumb and husband, Jason, Jarrett Leeds and wife Amy; and three great grandchildren; Anna, Adam and Maci.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Wilbur and Donald Schoof; and a sister, Ethel Marie Schoof who died in infancy.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation, with burial to follow at the Council Grove Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Family visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov.9, 2012, at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation.
