Commissioners to check with also-rans on jail construction management bids

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Red Willow County, Nebraska, commissioners decided Monday morning that they'll see if the other two companies who wanted to be construction manager for the county's new jail project are still interested after commissioners terminated the county's contract with their first choice last month.

A Sampson Construction representative told commissioners on Oct. 22 that they cannot build the jail as plans are drawn and stay within the county's $4.3 million construction budget, even though representatives seemed very confident and excited about the project and budget earlier in the year.

The other firms interviewed for the position in May were RaDec of Hartington, Nebraska, and Beckenhauer Construction Inc. of Norfolk, Nebraska.

Commission chairman Earl McNutt said he will contact architects Prohaska and Associates and see if they can have updated proposals from RaDec and Beckenhauer -- if they're still interested -- available for the Nov. 19 meeting, during which Prochaska representatives plan to present jail drawings nearing 100 percent completion.
