EUSTIS, Nebraska -- H&J Grocery and Beverages in Eustis is extending a welcome to all for its grand opening, set for 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 in Eustis.
The store had been in the Gauger family since 1900, when Louis Gauger came from Germany and opened a general store.
Gauger's sons, Herman and Ludwig, took over in 1919. The original store burned down and the building that stands now was built in early 1920. Howie and Jo Wolf (Herman's son-in-law) operated it from 1970 to 1985, Gregg and Jean Wolf (Howie's son) bought it in 1985 and operated it until 2012. Howie and Gregg were instrumental in bringing to fame their German family sausages.
The store was recently purchased by a group of local investors who have a stong interest in keeping the store open and helping contribute to a strong community.
The "new" store has a full line of groceries, meats, deli and liquor store.
It has been completely refurbished with new coolers, floors redone, painted and remodeled by the investors with help from local contractors.
Gregg Wolf is still involved in the meat department and makes all the sausages in the new Lone Wolf sausage plant located in Eustis that opened in the spring. Store hours are Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday through Saturday 7 a.m. to noon.
The store is at 101 N. Main in Eustis. The public is invited to help celebrate with specials, prizes and samples on Saturday, Nov. 10. Snow date is Nov. 17.
