Gary Lee Mackey

Jan. 27, 1947 -- Oct. 12, 2012

FORT COLLINS, Colorado -- Gary Lee Mackey of Fort Collins, was born on Monday, Jan. 27, 1947, in McCook, Nebraska, and passed away in Cuba, Missouri, on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at the age of 65.

He graduated from McCook High School in McCook, and then went on to complete two years of drafting school. Gary served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War for four years. He married Vicky S. Knepper on June 5, 1971, in McCook. He was a home builder in Nebraska and Colorado for several years. Later he became an over the road truck driver. He was a life-long member of the Elks Lodge in Fort Collins and enjoyed hobby drag racing with his family. He will be truly missed by his family, who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents George and Minnie Mackey; brothers George, Dale, and Bill Mackey.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years Vicky Mackey of Fort Collins; son Bryon (Jamie) Mackey; daughter Robin (Rob Brewster) Mackey, all of Wellington, Colorado; sister, Eunice Kay Ulrich of Denver, Colorado; half-sisters, Marilyn Masters of Lincoln, Nebraska, Marsha (Lyle) Pholmeier of Lawrence, Nebraska, Carolyn ( Jerry) Goebel of Hastings, Nebraska and Mary (Larry) Arnold of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Marlin D. (Patricia) Knepper of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Cecilia Knepper of McCook; two grandchildren, Austin and Laney Mackey of Wellington; lots of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will take place at 1:30 pm on Nov. 3, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church (Stover and Elizabeth), Fort Collins, Colorado. Reception immediately following at the Elks Lodge in Fort Collins.

NO FLOWERS PLEASE memorials may be given to Elks Help Handicapped Kids, Relay for Life, or any others of you choice in Gary's honor.
