SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. -- The McCook High School girls varsity volleyball team came out on the short end of two matches Saturday, Oct. 13, in a trip to the Nebraska panhandle.
The Bison lost twice at the Scottsbluff triangular meet. McCook dropped a 25-20, 25-19 decision to Scottsbluff, followed by a 25-19, 25-15 loss to Ogallala.
Rachel Goltl led McCook against Scottsbluff with 8 kills. Kira Johnson added 4 kills and 2 blocks. Top server for the Bison was Lauren Ruggles with 7 points and 1 ace. Danica Liess and Brenleigh Daum each served 3 points, and Liess had 2 ace serves. Daum also led McCook with 15 set assists, and Ruggles had 8 defensive digs.
In the loss to Ogallala, Kassidy Gillen recorded 7 service points and 3 aces, plus 3 blocks. Ruggles also had 5 serving points with 3 aces. Goltl, Gillen and Liess each hit 3 kills. Daum led the Bison with 10 assists, and Riley Allen recorded 4 digs.
McCook slipped to 11-17 on the season. The Bison have a break in the schedule, with the next match set Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Chase County.
The McCook girls will begin to gear up for the season's stretch run. The Bison will compete in the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament at Columbus Saturday, Oct. 27, with Class B District tournament play the following week at Perkins County High School in Grant.
