New visiting nephrologist seeing patients at Community Hospital
McCOOK, Nebraska -- A new visiting nephrologist, Ronald Asher, M.D. from North Platte, will begin seeing patients at Community Hospital this month. He will see patients at Community Hospital's Medical Specialists Center on the first Wednesday of the month.
Dr. Asher specializes in Renal Dialysis and is the medical director of the Platte River Kidney Care and Cherry County Hospital Dialysis Units. He will coordinate his patient care in McCook with Davita McCook Dialysis. He has participated in several clinical trials to research various topics including urinary incontinence, Osteoporosis, Chronic Kidney Disease, Type 2 diabetes, West Nile Virus, Tetanus, and Chronic Hemodialysis.
Asher has been a physician with Internal Medicine Associates of North Platte since 1976. A native of Ravenna, Nebraska, he graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha in 1973. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine through the UNMC-Nebraska/Rural Training Track Program. A nephrologist is a medical doctor who specializes in kidney care and treating diseases of the kidneys. Nephrologists are educated in internal medicine and then undergo more training to specialize in treating patients with kidney diseases. They commonly treat chronic kidney disease (CKD), polycystic kidney disease (PKD), acute renal failure, kidney stones and high blood pressure and are educated on all aspects of kidney transplantation and dialysis.
Dr. Asher is married and has two children and four grandchildren.
