McCOOK, Nebraska -- The Red Willow County Health Department is hosting a Saturday Walk-In Flu Vaccine Clinic this Saturday, October 13, from 10 a.m.-12 noon at their office located in the Ag Complex at the Red Willow County Fairgrounds.
"Influenza is a serious respiratory illness that causes thousands of hospitalizations and deaths every year. The Centers for Disease Control recommends a flu vaccine annually for everyone age 6 months and older," states Pam Klug, RN, Public Health Nurse at RWCHD.
This year four vaccine types are available. They include the traditional intramuscular route; the new intradermal route, which has a shorter needle and is for persons 18-64 years of age; the high dose vaccine for persons 65 years of age and older; and the nasal spray for persons ages 2 through 49 years. Flu vaccine is covered by Medicare Part B with no copay, and vaccine can also be billed to Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Free "Vaccines for Children" flu vaccine is available for children 18 years of age and younger for those with Medicaid, or without insurance, or whose insurance does not cover the vaccine.
