McCOOK, Nebraska -- McCook Area Chamber of Commerce Director Tacie Fawver estimates that more than 2,500 people were milling around Norris Park throughout Heritage Days weekend and reported that booths were up by four or five and parade entries were also up compared to last year.
The Chamber Retail Committee is planning its annual Christmas event and will be bringing back the popular "Let It Snow" promotion, she told the board of directors Wednesday.
Shoppers need to save the receipts of purchases from participating merchants between Nov. 12 and Dec. 15. If it snows more than six inches on Dec. 31, those purchases will be reimbursed.
The shopping promotion begins the same week as the McCook Farm and Ranch Expo and the Chamber will have a booth at the Expo this year, letting visitors know what chamber member businesses have to offer.
Planning is also under way for two annual events, the Chamber banquet held in early February, and the Home Show held in late February.
Upcoming Chamber events include a ribbon cutting at Nick's Distribution Tuesday at 10 a.m.; coffee connection at Viaero Wireless from 7:30 to 9 a.m. next Wednesday; a five-year member recognition at Janssen Kool Honda on Friday, Oct. 19 with pancakes being served at 9 a.m.; the Halloween Parade co-sponsored with McCook Daily Gazette and Quality Urgent Care on Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. beginning at the Keystone Business Center parking lot; and the Legislative Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Weeth Theater at McCook Community College on Oct. 30.
