The setting sun Saturday emblazons America's flag and her soldiers on new banners that hang on Oberlin, Kansas' main street, Penn Avenue. Banners with other patriotic, red-white-and-blue designs adorn the pillars of the awnings that distinguish downtown Oberlin. The banner project is sponsored by the Oberlin Business Alliance and coordinated by Laurie Wasson of Prairie Petals. The patriotic banners will hang through the November election, and then be replaced by new holiday designs. Ornamental sweet potato vines, purchased at Mona's Market in Dresden, Kansas, spill out of planters and onto the sidewalks and curbs.
