McCook ran past Lexington, 19-6 in four innings, in the B-6 District championship finals Friday, Oct. 5. The district tournament was played Oct. 4-5 at the Jaycees Sports Complex in McCook.
Madison Chitwood blasted a pair of home runs for McCook, and teammate Brittany Broomfield also had a pair of triples to key the Bison attack in the title game.
McCook took a 7-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Lexington roared back with six runs in the bottom of the inning. The rest of the game belonged to the Bison, as McCook scored two more runs in the top of the second, five more runs in the third and five more in the fourth, capped by Chitwood's three-run homer over the left field fence at the Jaycees Complex.
McCook pitcher Maddie Elder allowed a leadoff double in the bottom of the fourth. Elder induced a pair of fly ball outs before recording the final out to end the game by the mercy run rule and start the district title celebration for the Bison.
McCook takes a 19-15 record to the Class B state meet starting Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Hastings.
