Thursday, October 4, 2012

HAYES COUNTY, Nebraska -- Hayes County, Nebraska, plans a preliminary hearing Wednesday, Oct. 10, for an 18-year-old McCook man charged with breaking into the Hayes Center school in late July.

Miguel Navarro and 17-year-old Hugo Escamilla of Cozad were arraigned in Hayes County court Sept. 28, and charged with felony burglary stemming from the school break-in.

The two were arrested following a traffic stop by Red Willow County deputies east of McCook. Aug. 28.

During their arraignments, Escamilla waived his right to a preliminary hearing and his case was bound over to district court.

Navarro requested a hearing. He also faces another felony burglary charge, this one in Hitchcock County, for a break-in at the K&B Liquor Store in Culbertson on June 9. Both of Navarro's hearings will be Oct. 10 in Hitchcock County.

Navarro and Escamilla are suspects in a break-in in Benkelman schools, and they face burglary charges for the break-in of The Buckle clothing store in McCook on July 28.
