Robert I. 'Ike' Malcolm

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Robert Ivan "Ike" Malcolm passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was 86 years old.

Ike was born on July 3, 1926, at McCook to Theron Wallace and Virgia E. (Ethridge) Malcolm. He graduated from McCook High School in 1945. On Oct. 14, 1944, he entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on April 19, 1946.

On June 15, 1945, Ike was united in marriage to Jacqueline June McCarty in Reno, Nevada. To this union four children were born. She preceded him in death. He later married Bernadine "Bernie" Traphagan Stelmach on Sept. 5, 1981. To this union four more children joined Ike's family.

Ike worked as a salesman most all of his life. He was employed at Farmer's Coop as a parts man before retiring. His passion was flying and owning his own plane. He was a member of McCook Elk's Club and Flying Farmers. His hobbies included playing the organ, woodworking, participating in Dale Carnegie classes, and repairing anything that needed fixed. He was an avid Husker and Bison fan.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wives, Jacqueline and Bernie Malcolm; sister, Constance Chrisman and husband, Melvin; brother, Edward Francis Malcolm; sister-in-law, Justine Malcolm; and brother-in-law, Gib Clesson.

Survivors include his four children, Rick Malcolm of Laramie, Wyoming, Debbie and husband, Don Mittlestadt, of Broomfield, Colorado, Judi and husband, Bill Madron, of McCook, and Michelle and husband, David Bunnell, of McCook; granddaughter, Erin (Kent) Gerih, grandsons, Lance (Lindsay) Madron, Travis Madron, Ry (Jen) Mittlestadt, Darrick (Angela) Mittlestadt, Brock (Stephanie) Malcolm, Bryce Malcolm, Brendon Malcolm, Shawn Winder, Blake (Katie) Winder; 15 great grandchildren; four step-children, Lenny Stelmach and wife, Lois, of Lincoln, Gregory Stelmach and wife, Dannette, of Sterling, Colorado, Kathy and husband, Dennis Bauer, of Lincoln and Mary Stelmach of Lincoln; eight step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Katherine Clesson of McCook; brother, John Malcolm of Austin, Texas; sisters-in-law, Mid Malcolm of Forest Hills, New York and Eleanor Traphagan of Sterling, Colorado; numerous nieces, nephews, family and a host of friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, from 1-8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.carpenterbreland.com

Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, 11 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with the Rev. Mary Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
