Audit shows positive cash flow at Hillcrest

McCOOK, Nebraska -- A yearly audit on Medicare and Medicaid at Hillcrest Nursing Home shows an increase in assets.

Administrator Colinda Nappa told the board of trustees at their regular meeting Tuesday that the independent audit shows net assets for 2012 at $3.214 million, compared to $2.943 million in 2011.

The home also shows a positive cash flow for the end of 2012, at $45,688.

Nappa also informed the board that there will be an extra expense, of $7,000, to update the facility's computers.

Hillcrest must update nine computers to make them compatible for the new software that will bring the home into compliance with electronic charting.

A federal mandate requiring nursing homes to do all their charting by computers must be completed by January 2014, she said.

At the August meeting, the board heard from Hillcrest's technical support, Greg Fyn, who estimated the update would cost around $50,000. The board did not take any action concerning this.

The update will also mean that some staff members who are not familiar with computers will have to be trained, Nappa added.

In other business, the board discussed:

options on storage facilities, to store the facilities equipment such as extra furniture, lawnmowers and snow blowers. Trustee Jim Howard suggested renting a storage unit and Nappa said she will get estimates on that.

The open house for the completion of new resident rooms and other construction was a success, with more than 150 people attending, Nappa said. Hillcrest is now doing fundraising for the Alzheimer Walk. The walk is scheduled for Oct. 6 and one of the fundraising activities Hillcrest is sponsoring is a bake sale on Friday.

the board voted unanimously to cover expenses for travel, lodging, meals and workshop fees, for Nappa to attend an assisted living workshop in Lincoln.
