Out of Afghanistan

Several have asked Grannie Annie if she would be sending packages to our troops in Afghanistan again this year. The answer is yes and she already has made connections with Chaplains and their Assistants in three FOB's (Military talk for "Forward Operating Base").

The Chaplains that she regularly sent packages this past year have rotated back home. In appreciation for this community's efforts, coordinated by Grannie, the commanders of the two FOBs she sent packages forwarded Certificates of Appreciation. They wrote from FOB Orgun-E: "Thank you for supporting the forward deployed Soldiers of Task Force 1-28. Your generous contributions have helped keep spirits lifted and morale high. It is a great comfort and encouragement to our Soldiers to know that our fellow Americans support us as we carry out the missions that we are called to. We offer a very heartfelt 'Thank you' for your support of the Black Lions!"

And from the 1-17: "We wish to express to you our deepest appreciation for your support of Task Force Saber during their deployment to Operation Enduring Freedom. Your significant donations have made an enormous contribution to the morale and well being of Troopers serving at FOB Fenty, Jalalabad Afghanistan."

Both certificates tastefully embellished with appropriate military heraldry were signed by their respective Commanders and Command Sergeant Majors.

These are our sons and daughters serving out on the tip of the spear.

No doubt the myriad items that this community donates and Grannie coordinates are appreciated. I personally suspect that it is not really the goodies sent that is important, it is the thought that someone back home cares enough to make the effort is paramount in our troops' minds. For sure Grannie Annie will do it all again and continue until our common everyday heroes all come back home. Those at home, that is you, also serve by your prayers and tribute. Bless each of you.

The news from the Arab world seems not so good. Our feckless administration is trying to get out in front of the unrest but meanwhile shades the truth a bit to the American public. A recent Senate bill submitted by Senator John Kyl attempted to cut all financial aid to Libya, Egypt, Pakistan and those that raided our embassies this month. Unfortunately our two Nebraska Senators, Johanns and Nelson, voted against that concept evidently favoring the present practice of borrowing money to send to those who hate us. I can't say that I'm too proud of their thinking. Cutting off the money should be the first step in getting the attention of those who are committed to do us harm.

For only a $35 donation, shipping and handling extra, one can get the O-team's new caricature of our American Flag. In the inimitable words of Mark Steyn; "Replacing the 50 stars of a federal republic is the single 'O' logo symbolizing the great gaping maw of spendaholic centralization. And where the stripes used to be are a handful of red daubs, eerily mimicking the bloody finger streaks left on the pillars of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi as its staff was dragged out by a mob of savages to be tortured and killed."

Fortunately I haven't seen one proudly displayed in our area.

That is the way I saw it.

November Six, IMO, will tell the direction that U.S.A. goes for many many years, presuming we have that 'many' years. Keep the Watch.

Mark Steyn is described by Wiki as a Canadian humorist. Perhaps you didn't get the joke.

Just like requesting a song on the radio, may I request a column? Before the election, why don't you do an expose of the mentality of the electorate. You know, are we smart or dumb?
