Fall Festival time at St. Patrick's
McCOOK, Nebraska -- Husker football fans who want to be at Nebraska's game against Michigan this year will want to attend St. Pat's Fall Festival this weekend. Tickets to the game are the grand prize for the raffle at the annual fundraising event for the parish Saturday and Sunday.
Free ice cream will be given with any purchase at Saturday's event in the church basement, from 6-9 p.m. The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, sloppy joes, hot dogs, and pie. People are welcome to come for the meal or dessert or just to play bingo. Bingo prizes will include cash and gift certificates; the prize for the final game will be $100.
Sunday's events will be held at the church grounds at East 4th and G, from noon until 4 p.m. There will be games, Fun Jumpz, slides, food, produce/baked goods booth, auction, and the raffle drawing. Special events during the afternoon include Cow Pie Bingo, karaoke contest, and Celebrity Tug of War. The Celebrity Tug of War will pit the Rev. Brethour's team against the Rev. Heaslip's team. Places on the team may be purchased during the auction.
Games at the festival include the fish pond, duck pond, lollipop tree, color wheel, and face painting for the younger children. For the older children and teens there will be ring toss, tennis ball toss, basketball and football throws, and plinko.
People of all ages seem to enjoy bingo, cake walk, skee ball, and Sinko. There will be mule wagon rides and kiddie train rides available for the children. A new activity this year will be a photo booth.
Fun Jumpz this year will feature jousting, obstacle course, bungee run, and jump house boxing. Slide enthusiasts can choose from a giant slide or a smaller inflatable slide. One $10 bracelet allows access to all of the Fun Jumpz and the slides as well.
The goodies and garden booth will feature baked goods, homemade jellies, and garden produce.
Entertainment from noon until 3 p.m., will be provided by Mike Brown. The karaoke contest will offer cash prizes. Contact Courtney Quint at 340-3743 to sign up.
Food will be available from the dinner in the church basement, and from the snack shack. The dinner will feature roast beef, ham, mashed potatoes (real, not boxed) and gravy, vegetables, salad bar, and drink. Dinner will be served from noon until 1:30. The cost is $7.25 for adults, $3.50 for ages 5-12, and free for under age 5.
The snack shack will feature hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, sloppy joes, pie, ice cream, and root beer floats. The snack shack will be open from noon until 3:30 p.m. Snow cones will also be available all afternoon.
There will be a silent auction and an oral auction. The silent auction features dozens of items donated by businesses, individuals, and organizations. The items include new merchandise, craft items, collectibles, and gift baskets. They will be on display in the gym, beginning at noon.
The oral auction will feature special items, such as football tickets, airplane rides, Y membership, Go-lights, a wedding cake, specialty baking, and much more. The oral auction will begin at 3 p.m. in the school gym.
The grand prize for the raffle is a trip for two to the Nebraska/Michigan game, with excellent seats. It includes an overnight stay in Lincoln, along with $100 spending money. Other prizes include a Kindle e-reader plus Amazon gift card, and gift certificates from Lord's, Norm and Sharon Timmerman, Schmicks, Coppermill, Orschelns, and Loop Brewing Company. Tickets are available from parishioners, at the parish office at East 4th and G, at Saturday evening's barbecue and bingo, and all Sunday afternoon up until the drawing (which will be held at the end of the afternoon).
The entire community is invited to attend the event, which supports the various education and youth programs at St. Pat's.
