District nine officers introduced at McDonald Ryan Auxiliary Unit

DANBURY, Nebraska -- American Legion Auxiliary McDonald Ryan Unit 276 of Danbury met Wednesday, Sep. 12, 2012, at the home of Pat Redfern in Bartley.

The meeting opened in form with five members present and four guests: District 9 Vice President Joyce Petersen of Curtis, and Arlene Newcomb, Charlene Colson and Beverly Smith of the Bartley unit. The minutes were read and approved and a financial report was given by the treasurer.

Bills were allowed for the assessments for the Veterans Gift Shop and the Veterans Home. The winner of the afghan raffle was Vickie Harrison. The unit thanks all who participated.

President Pat Redfern displayed the book "Presidential Pets" which the unit will be donating to the Southwest Elementary School Library. A donation for the auxiliary project "10 for Education" will also be made, as well as a donation to the backpack program.

The district newsletter and district issues were discussed. The District 9 Fall Round Up will be held in the Community Building in Curtis at 2 p.m. on Oct. 21. Helen Solberg, a 2012 graduate of Southwest School, who is on active duty with the Nebraska National Guard, was remembered with cards from the unit.

The president formally introduced the District 9 officers: President-Karen Hodson, Vice president-Joyce Petersen, Secretary/Treasurer-Wanda Miller and Chaplain-Patsy Redfern.

After the president presented a "history moment" in the life of Mary Todd Lincoln, she presented the Bartley unit with a scrapbook of information of some of the Bartley veterans, and urged them to complete the data on the veterans of their community.

The next Red Willow County meeting will be Monday, October 22, at 7 p.m. in Indianola. On Saturday, Oct. 6, there will be a Department President's Homecoming honoring Cheryl Vap in Red Cloud with a Leadership School in the afternoon, with a reception and banquet that evening. The next unit meeting will be with Margie Welsh of McCook on October 10 at 2 p.m. The meeting closed in form and adjourned.
