McCOOK, Nebraska -- The new bishop for the Nebraska Conference of the United Methodist Church will be in McCook on Tuesday, Sept. 4. There will be a breakfast at 7 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 105 East E Street. The public is invited to come and meet him, along with his wife.

The Rev. Scott J. Jones, 58, is currently the bishop of the Kansas area, and he will take over duties for both conferences effective Sept. 1. The Kansas and Nebraska conferences have voted to combine into The Great Plains Conference, which will take effect in 2014. Bishop Jones will reside in Wichita.

Jones' wife, MaryLou Reece, will accompany him on his tour of western Nebraska. She is owner of Reece Construction, a bridge construction company based in Salina, Kansas. They have three grown children.
