Colinda Knappa, the new administrator at Hillcrest Nursing Home, is introduced to the Hillcrest Board of Trustees Tuesday morning.

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Hillcrest Nursing Home has a new administrator.

Colinda Knappa was introduced at the regular Hillcrest Board of Trustee meeting Tuesday morning. Knappa is from Madison, Wisconsin and originally of Imperial, Nebraska.

Prior to coming to McCook, Knappa worked for a private company for a county-owned nursing home, she said.

"I'm very excited to be here," Knappa said. "This place is beautiful and the staff has been so nice. I'm a very resident and staff-orientated person, so the biggest challenge right now is learning everyone's name!"

Knappa takes the place of Jerry Rothmyer of Curtis, who came out of retirement to serve as interim director when Peggy Rogers, the former administrator, unexpectedly retired in May.

In other action, the board was made aware of lack of storage at the facility, that the board mentioned has been a long-term problem.

Storage is needed not just for furniture, but also for vehicles and equipment like lawn mowers, Rothmyer said.

The board took no action. Jim Hall noted that the recent construction had originally included plans for storage, but those plans were not implemented.

The census report for the nursing home, as of Tuesday, includes 86 residents, with 10 assisted living.

Following the regular meeting, the board re-convened in closed executive session to discuss employee evaluations.
