Grief Support group will meet at Community Hospital starting Sept. 25
McCOOK, Nebraska--Adults who have experienced a recent loss of a loved one are invited to join Community Hospital's grief support group, which begins September 25.
The support group meets for eight weeks on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sessions are Sept. 25, Oct. 9, 23 and 30, Nov. 20, Dec. 4 and 18; and Jan. 8. This is a closed support group. New members will not be added after Sept. 25. The support group will meet in the Community Hospital Prairie View Conference Room B. Attendees are encouraged to attend all eight sessions.
Facilitators for the support group are Becky Mai, Social Services Director at Community Hospital, and Cathy Nichols, registered nurse with Community HealthCare and Hospice.
"Our hospice families were offered bereavement support with publications, phone calls, or home visits, but there is another type of support that can only be reached by meeting with and processing your grief with others who are experiencing similar situations," said Mai. That thought is further emphasized through the support group's theme: "Grief shared is grief diminished."
Any adult who has experienced a recent loss of a loved one is welcome to attend, and especially adult members of families who have been served by Community Hospital's hospice program.
Mai is a licensed social worker who has received grief support training. Nichol works as a nurse with hospice patients and their families at Community Hospital. She has received bereavement training as well.
As facilitators, they help attendees understand the grief process and cover the different stages of loss, while having the support of others who have gone through the process. The support group concludes with a special ceremony and mementos.
There is no charge to attend. Financial support for the service is provided by the Community Hospital Health Foundation, which contributes materials for attendees, including binders, handouts, videos, journals and other support materials.
For more information, or to register, contact Becky at (308)344-8221 or Cathy at Community HealthCare and Hospice at (308)344-8356 before Sept. 21. The support group size is limited.
