McCOOK, Nebraska -- A Red Willow County Sheriff's vehicle crashed into the back end of a 1969 Chevy Corvette shortly after pulling the car over for a traffic violation. The accident happened Friday, Aug. 17, in the VK Electronics parking lot.

According to the accident report the Red Willow County Sheriff's deputy, 32-year-old Justin Davis of McCook, was driving a 2007 Ford Expedition owned by Red Willow County when he stopped 51-year-old Steven Lee Dietz of Phillipsburg, Kansas. Both vehicles pulled into the VK Electronics parking lot and Davis reported that he moved the gear shifter to park but apparently an item on the console prevented the lever from fully resting in the park position.

After Davis exited the Expedition the vehicle rolled forward and struck the rear of the parked Corvette, causing an estimated $1,200 in damage to the sports car.
