Plea reached with second man in CODE raid

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

McCOOK, Nebraska -- A plea agreement was reached last week with a second man arrested during the CODE task force raid of a McCook residence in February. The plea agreement with the man, 33-year-old Travis L. Hanes, admitted guilt to a Class IV felony of possession of methamphetamine and dismissed a possession of drug paraphernalia infraction.

Hanes was at the West Fourth Street home of 44-year-old Timothy J. Griffith when a CODE task force carried out a raid and subsequently arrested both men. Hanes was originally charged with the paraphernalia infraction and felony possession of methamphetamine stemming from a bag recovered from his vehicle.

Sentencing is scheduled for Hanes at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 1, 2012, in Red Willow County District Court.

Griffith was sentenced to probation last week after he accepted a plea agreement in his case that admitted guilt to three Class III felony offenses of distribution of marijuana.

CODE, Central Nebraska Cooperative for Drug Enforcement, is the largest drug task force in Nebraska and deals with issues of drugs, violent crimes and gang activity in South Central Nebraska.
