'Livin' the Dream'

Monday, August 13, 2012

Indianolians and their neighbors, friends and family celebrate whatever it is they deem "the dream" during the 110th annual Red Willow County Old Settlers Celebration in Indianola, Nebraska, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The parade Saturday highlighted family, that of Tom and Denise McConville of Indianola; horses, those of Harvey and Rex Cole and Bob Haag (one of whom got a kiss from 21⁄2-year-old Max Butterfield of McCook); collectible vehicles, including the 1977 Ford pickup of Kris Schaffert, and Husker football, one of which was thrown to the crowd by Michelle Reiners Hedke of State Farm Insurance, McCook. The annual celebration of life on the American plains started with a health fair Friday and ended with a hamburger feed Sunday. In between, organizers filled the hours with volleyball and softball, live music and a street dance, a road race, horseback rides, a rolling pin throwing contest and a frog jumping contest, homemade ice cream and pie and a melodrama called "Dogsbreath Devereaux, the Dastardly Doctor" presented by the Southwest Schools Foundation.
