McCOOK, Nebraska -- Red Willow County Commissioners transferred $139,000 to Hillcrest Nursing Home to cover the home's payroll expenses.
The action was approved at a special meeting this morning, called because the claim was not received in time for the board's regular meeting Monday.
"Over the last few weeks we have indeed been working on a situation that has arisen and obviously the county did go on record a couple of weeks ago, [we] borrowed $1,000,000 from McCook National Bank for construction and other financial issues that have arisen. That's the purpose of this meeting, so we can transfer some funds to Hillcrest," commission chairman Earl McNutt explained.
The $139,000 amount requested in the claim, from Hillcrest interim administrator Jerry Rothmeyer, was described as $100,000 of payroll wage expense and $39,000 in payroll taxes.
After making a motion to approve the claim, commissioner Vesta Dack asked if it would be possible for commissioners to get a more detailed printout that listed all of the employees and their wages. Hillcrest board member Jim Hall responded that he would see if he could do that.
Dack added that the payroll issue has come up more than once, and asked Red Willow County Attorney Paul Wood if her request was unreasonable, to which he replied that it was not.
The county is also likely to be on the hook for more expenses related to a construction project.
Hall said there was a "punch list" meeting scheduled for Thursday morning on the project, which would give officials more information.
