'Blackwood Brothers' in concert

Thursday, July 19, 2012

The Blackwood Brothers Quartet will perform in concert Monday, July 23, at 6:30 p.m., in the Norris Park band shell, in the 700 block of Norris Avenue, in McCook, Nebraska. The concert is free of charge; the public is invited. The best-known name in gospel music, the Blackwood Brothers Quartet was formed in 1934 with brothers Roy, Doyle, James and Roy's, son R.W. That heritage of gospel music is carried on today with James' sons Jimmy and Billy, along with tenor Wayne Little and bass singer Butch Owens. Some of their most popular songs are "The Old Country Church" "How Great Thou Art," "Daddy Sang Bass," "Just A Little Talk With Jesus," "Learning to Lean," "Softly and Tenderly," "Blessed Assurance," "Rock of Ages," "In the Garden," "He Touched Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
