Hillcrest to cash CDs to help cover expenses

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The Hillcrest Board of Trustees approved cashing in certificates of deposits that will go toward operating expenses.

After closed executive session on Friday, July 6, the board approved cashing three CDs owned by the board and worth approximately $274,000, to be used in operating the facility.

Hillcrest is owned by Red Willow County and recently asked county commissioners to borrow $1 million to cover cash-flow problems.

The nursing home is in need of the funds to operate as Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements were not filed and received since February, when a billing clerk was fired by then-Hillcrest administrator, Peggy Rogers.

Rogers resigned in May and Jerry Rothmeyer of Wellfleet is serving as interim director.

Jim Hall, board president, confirmed on Monday that the board is in contract negotiations with an individual to serve as administrator. He declined to name that individual until negotiations are finalized.
