John R. Sawdon

NORTON, Kansas -- John R. Sawdon, 91, of Norton, formerly of Norcatur, Kansas, died Tuesday (July 3, 2012), at the Andbe Home in Norton.

He was born March 17, 1921, to John W. and Jannie Johnson Sawdon in Oberlin. He attended Decatur Community High School and graduated in 1939. He was in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II.

He lived in Hawthorne, California, Glenwood, Minnesota and Norcatur, Kansas.

He married Imogene Locy on Nov. 6, 1943. He was a mechanic for the City of Los Angeles. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Shriners and Eagles Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene, in 1999; his parents, John W. and Jannie Sawdon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian and Wilbur McHugh and and Marguerite and George Goldstein and a nephew, Stanley Goldstein.

He is survived by his son, Ken Sawdon of Starbuck, Minnesota and two grandsons.

Services are Monday, July 9 at 10 a.m. at Norcatur Cemetery with Mr. Dewayne Jackson officiating. Interment is at the Norcatur Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin

Memorials may be given in his name to the Andbe Home and the Norcatur School Roof Fund.
